Papaya is a fast-growing tropical fruit tree found in nearly every Mauritian garden. It produces fruit year-round and is eaten fresh, in salads, or as green papaya in achards and curries. Rich in vitamins A and C.

Plant from September to February during the warm season. Papayas need warmth and will not tolerate frost.

- Compost: Dig a large hole and mix with compost and aged manure. Excellent drainage is critical โ papayas die in waterlogged soil.

- Yield tips: Harvest when 1/3 yellow for shipping, fully yellow for eating fresh. A single tree can produce 30โ50 fruits per year.
